Three drowned in floodwater in Kurigram

KURIGRAM, Sept 9 (UNB): Three people including a little boy drowned in floodwater in separate villages of Nageswari Upazila Saturday-Sunday.
Sources said Majiron (55) and Babu (8) of Takimari village drowned Saturday night while Balijon (55) of Dhakuamari village drowned Sunday morning.
Flood situation has worsened in the district Sunday. Dharala river is flowing 90cm above the danger level at Bridge point, Brahmaputa river 30cm above at Chilmari point and Teesta 23cm above at Kaunia point.
The fresh flood inundated fifty-four unions, out of 72, in the district.
Department of Agricultural Extension sources said Transplanted Aman plants on 26,196 hectares of land, vegetables on 215 hectares and other crops on 65 hectares were totally damaged.
Besides, Kurigram-Bhurungamari road went under water snapping road communication between Nageswari-Bhurungamari and Kurigram Sadar.
