FE REPORT
Police arrested three alleged members of a child abduction racket, including its ringleader, in the capital Dhaka on Saturday.
The arrestees were identified as Md Milton Masud (ring leader) (45), Md Shahinur Rahman (38) and Sufia Begum (48).
Until arrest, they had abducted 500 to 600 children and freed them after realising ransom between Tk10,000 and Tk50,000 for each from their parents depending on their financial capacities. Deputy Police Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Uttara division Morshed Alam disclosed the development to the media at the DMP's media and public relations centre in the city on Saturday.
He said the abductors first introduced themselves to a child as their parents' friends or relatives if he/she was found alone and kidnapped the child. The abductors made a child their target for kidnapping usually when he/she was found alone or in company with parents at schools, markets or restaurants and other places.
The abductors targeted to abduct a child who could talk to their parents over mobile phone, the police official said.
He said a child named Shaheen Sheikh (6) was kidnapped on March 24, 2023 from in front of Holy Lab located at Sector no 4 in the capital's Uttara area.
Police started investigating the incident of abduction following a general diary (GD) filed by his parents with Uttara East Police Station.
Additional Deputy Police Commissioner of Uttara Airport zone Md Tawhidul Islam along with a team from Uttara East Police Station carried out a drive and arrested the trio by applying information technology.
