Three held over theft of BMU construction materials

Police arrested three individuals for their alleged involvement in stealing construction materials of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) in the capital's Shahbagh area. The arrestees were identified as Al Mamun Sarker (33), Md Mamunur Rashid (40) and Md Masum Billah (35).
The incident took place around 6:0am on Tuesday when a group of people stole construction materials (scraps) from the engineering section of a project at Basement-2 of BMU using a mini truck, Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) NM Nasiruddin told the media.
He said after analysing CCTV footage, intelligence inputs and technology, Al Mamun Sarker and Md Mamunur Rashid were arrested from the Super Specialized Hospital area around 7:0pm on Wednesday (22 April).
Later, Md Masum Billah was arrested from the Badda thana area around 11:30pm the same night.
Police also recovered four mini trucks loaded with stolen construction scrap materials worth approximately Tk 1.0 million ( Tk10 lakh).
During initial interrogation, the arrestees confessed to being active members of an organised theft gang and admitted stealing scrap materials from the hospital. A case has been filed at Shahbagh Police Station.
