The tax authority recently approved tax-exemption plea of three people's welfare-oriented organisations including the Arannyak Foundation, the Head and Neck Cancer Hospital, Agargaon and the Probin Kolyan Sangstha.
The income tax wing of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) recently approved the request of tax-exemption at a board meeting in a bid to help those organisations expedite their voluntary humanitarian contribution towards the society.
The Arannyak Foundation would enjoy tax exemption on its bank interest while other two entitles will enjoy waiver on their annual income through contribution of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
A senior tax official said the NBR agreed to offer the tax exemption to the organisations following instruction of the government high-ups and considering nature of their functions.
These non-profit organisations usually use their incomes for development and research in their respective areas, instead of taking profit, he said.
The Arannyak Foundation (AF), also known as the Bangladesh Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation, is a non- profit company, established in 2003 by the joint initiative of the Bangladesh and the United States governments based on provisions of the US Tropical Forest Act of 1998.
The mission of the AF is to facilitate the conservation, protection, restoration and sustainable use of tropical forests in Bangladesh.
