Three sentenced to life term in Barisal

BARISAL, Aug 31 (UNB): The court of Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal here Wednesday convicted three people and awarded them life term imprisonment in a murder case.
The convicts are Rana Sikdar, Eskandar Molla and Rafiq Talukdar. All of them were tried in absentia.
According to prosecution, the accused abducted Shahid Mridha form his house at Deukati village under Sadar Upazila of Patuakhali district and chopped him to death in a nearby brickfield on February 02, 2003 following a land dispute.
M Shahjahan, elder brother of the victim, filed a murder case against 11 people with Patukhali Sadar police station and the investigation officer submitted charge sheet against them. But one of the accused died before the end of the trial.
After examining the witnesses and records Tribunal Judge Rabiul Hasan pronounced the verdict acquitting seven others.
