Three workers burnt in fire

Three workers of a perfume factory received burn injuries in a fire that broke out at the unit in the capital's Chawkbazar area Wednesday evening, police and firemen said.
The injured were identified as Abdul Aziz, Mofiz Uddin and Kabir Hossain and were taken to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Witnesses said the fire originated at the perfume factory, located at the 3rd floor of a five-storey building on Hekim Habibur Rahman Road of the area, at about 6:10pm, leading to the causalities.
On information, six units of firemen rushed to the spot and doused the flame after a hour-long frantic efforts with the help of locals.
Deputy Assistant Director of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department Abdul Halim said they found the door of a room where the factory is located open, indicating that the fire originated while bottling the perfume.
"We cannot say the exact reason behind the fire right now. It can be ascertained after an investigation," he said, adding that they managed to keep the fire within the room before drenching.
