Thrust on edn instt-industry interaction for industrialisation

Speakers at a seminar on 'Academia-Industry Linkage for Education and Research in Bangladesh: Views from the Private Sector' Saturday stressed the need for promoting interaction between educational institutions and industries of the country to transfer the formers' knowledge and expertise to the latter to meet the needs of employers and the economy.
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Alumni Association organised the seminar at the university marking its 60 years of engineering education in Bangladesh.
BUET Vice-chancellor (VC) AMM Shafiullah was the chief guest at the seminar with university's alumni association president and BRAC University VC Jamilur Reza Chowdhury in the chair. Engineer AKM Shamsuddin of E-Zone Limited presented the keynote paper.
In his presentation, Shamsuddin said the vision of BUET should be to become a model of centre of excellence through sustained engagement with business, industry, public sector and international partners to shape bright future of graduates operating in a global environment and advancing the prosperity of Bangladesh.
Referring to the importance of academia-industry linkage to accelerate industrialisation, he also focused on more funds in research and development work, enhancing curricular quality, bringing real life experience to class rooms, applying new theories, tools and techniques in business and employment opportunity for graduates.
Grameenphone chief of optical fibre department AM Yahya, ASM Quashem, Abdullahel Bari, Rabiul Alam and Mubasshar Hussain along with a large number of prominent engineers attended the seminar.
