Thrust on raising food production in country

COMILLA, Aug 4 (BSS): Special Assistant to Chief Adviser for Social Welfare and Telecommunications MA Malek Monday said against the backdrop of global food crisis and price hike of the item in the international market the domestic grain production has to be increased for ensuring food security at home.
"An increase in food production has to be ensured in the country by ensuring supply of agricultural inputs like quality seeds, fertiliser, diesel, electricity, pesticide as well as latest technology to the farmers on time", the special assistant said.
He said this while exchanging views with the district level officials, representatives of different professions and elite of the town in the conference room of the deputy commissioner's office in the district. DC Mohammad Monzurur Rahman presided over the meeting.
Bangladesh has achieved a record Boro production this year as a result of agriculture-friendly programmes taken by the present government, Malek said.
He advised the local administration and officials of the agriculture department to stop possible harassment of farmers in the procurement of agri-inputs.
