Transparency Interna-tional Bangladesh (TIB) put forward to the government Tuesday a nine-point demand including creation of employment and strict enforcement of anti-narcotics act to get the expected outcome from the young community.
Other demands include action against all sorts of pornographies and harassment of people using internet, regular and integrated efforts to help the young generation by the government, ensuring sufficient playground, amusement facilities, healthy social environment and modern schooling.
TIB, a local chapter of the Berlin-based Transparency International (TI), formally made the demands through a human chain programme held in front of the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of the Dhaka University (DU).
The TIB arranged the programme as part of its celebration of the International Youth Day-2014. DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (academic) Prof Nasreen Ahmed, TIB Deputy Executive Director Sumaiya Khair and over one hundred volunteer students, specially members of the TIB-supported youth forum 'Yes' attended the event.
Addressing the event as chief guest, Prof Ahmed said the country has failed to ensure a suitable environment for the development of the next generation who will the lead the nation.
"Unfortunately, a recognizable quarter of our society is involved in the corruption", the professor said adding that corruption isn't always necessarily to be financial one, rather holding working files in the cover is also corruption.
The university Pro-VC has identified unemployment as the major and dangerous obstacle in the way of developing the country's young forces. She urged the government to ensure proper environment for the development of the community.
The professor called upon the government to bring the dishonest people, especially those who are involved in the corruption like adulteration of foodstuffs to book and award exemplary punishment.
Expressing gratitude, the TIB representative Ms Khair said TIB is closely working with the young generation to curb corruption from the society, as the community is the driving force of the whole nation.
She said one third of the country's population is youth, so the nation must properly recognise and facilitate the budding group to attain the desired outcome for the nation.
