TIB’s Iftekhar gets WB GPSA award

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) executive director Iftekharuzzaman has been named for the Global Partnership for Social Accountability (GPSA) award by the World Bank (WB) for his outstanding contribution in creating public demand for transparency and good governance.
Apart from Mr Zaman's selection in South Asia, five others got the award introduced for the first time.
In the official announcement of the award, it was said that despite limited scope for protest, Dr Zaman has played the role of a captain in forming public opinion for transparency and good governance. TIB has successfully implemented several institutional, legal and policy structure steps under the efficient leadership of Mr Zaman. Of the initiatives, formation of two big platforms Sacheton Nagorik Committee (SANAK) and Youth Engagement and Support (YES), with 6000 volunteers from across the country in the anti-corruption movement, was significant.
Expressing his reaction, Mr Zaman said he dedicated his award to the members of various platforms of anti-corruption movement and the TIB. Their unconditional commitment and relentless effort has helped expand the anti-corruption concept in the country.
"It is difficult to work against corruption and lack of governance. It takes anti-corruption mindset showing determination in practising what we say to turn any challenge into potential," said Mr Zaman.
