A supply line of the Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited developed a leak and caught fire after being damaged by an excavator machine deployed in the widening of the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway at Sreepur Upazila in Gazipur on Thursday night, reports bdnews24.com.
The fire leaped 20 to 30 feet. Several roadside shops were gutted in the fire, but no casualties were reported.
The incident occurred around 6:45pm in Gargaria Masterbari area, OC of the Sreepur's Mawna Highway Police Outpost Sanwar Hossain told the news agency.
The fire-fighters of the Gazipur and Sreepur fire stations were trying to contain the blaze.
