Tk 10m medical supplies sent to Myanmar

A lorry carrying over Tk 10 million worth of medicine and supplies have set off from Dhaka for neighbouring Myanmar as part of the emergency relief promised by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The consignment is expected to reach Myanmar today, report agencies.
The medicines, weighing about one tonnes, will be sent to Myanmar through a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at 12.30 pm today, sources at the Prime Minister's Office said.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed the authorities concerned to send emergency relief materials like lifesaving medicines and kits, water purification tablets, blankets and tents to Myanmar for its flood-affected people.
PMO senior officials, including PM's Principal Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad, visited the Central Medical Stores Depot at Tejgaon to see the medicines that would be sent to Myanmar.
Health Secretary Syed Manjurul Islam, Maritime Affairs Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rear Admiral Khurshid Alam, Director General of Health Deen Mohammad Nurul Haque and other senior officials of the PMO, the Foreign Ministry and the Health Ministry were present on the occasion.
PM's Principal Secretary Abul Kalam Azad said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very much sincere and always ready to provide any kind of human assistance for the necessity of Bangladesh's neighbours.
He also said the Myanmar government is yet to make any request to Bangladesh for sending any medical team. "But we're always ready to send medical team there for their necessity," he said.
