Tk 12b project taken to improve secondary edn

The government with the support of International Development Association (IDA) has undertaken a Tk 12 billion (1,200 crore) Secondary Education Quality and Access Enhancement Project (SEQAEP) to improve the quality of secondary level education in the country, reports BSS.
Adviser for Education Hossain Zillur Rahman launched the six- year project at a function at the LGED auditorium in the city Saturday with Education Secretary M Momtazul Islam in the chair.
The government will provide 16 per cent of the total funds while the IDA, a soft lending arm of the World Bank (WB), will provide rest of the amount to implement the project by June 2014, officials said.
Secretary of Planning Jafar Ahmed Chowdhury, Planning Commission Member AMM Nasir Uddin, ERD Secretary M Aminul Islam Bhuiyan and Chief Planner of the Ministry of Education M Mezbah Uddin also addressed the function.
Under the project, the system of education will be improved through providing stipends for the poor male students and the female students, undertaking steps to enroll the drop-out students and ensuring access to safe drinking water and sanitation for them.
