Tk 1.65b project undertaken for road safety: Quader

Road Transport and Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader said Tuesday  the government has undertaken a project for road safety at black spots on the national highways with Tk 1.65 billion as countermeasures, reports BSS.
Some 144 black spots would be improved under the project of Improvement of Road Safety at Black Spots on the National Highways with implementing countermeasures aimed at curbing road accidents, he said, while replying to a question from treasury bench member Begum Amatul Kibria Keya Chowdhury in the House.
The minister said the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the Detail Project Proposal (DPP) on October 14, 2014 for taking countermeasures of the 144 black spots.
Besides, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) submitted a report identifying 209 black spots in the country, while 18 more black spots were identified on the basis of the report with field visit, he said.
Quader informed the House that there are a total of 8,059.75 kms national and regional highways in the country, of which 3,812.78 kms are under national highways and 4,246.97 kms under regional highways.
