Tk 5.31b sought for 3yrs beyond extra budget

The cultural affairs ministry has now sought an additional allocation of Tk 5.30 billion (530 crore) from the government exchequer for next three years.
Officials said the Ministry of Cultural Affairs (MoCA) sought the extra allocation from the non-development budget for the next three fiscal years (FYs).
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor and secretary Dr Ranjit Kumar Biswas recently sent separate letters to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) seeking the funds.
Under the medium-term budgetary framework (MTBF) the MoF has allocated Tk 2.78 billion, over Tk 3.0 billion and over Tk 3.24 billion for the the MoCA for 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 respectively.
"But Tk 5.306 billion is needed urgently for the next three FYs in favour of different departments and agencies of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs," says a letter.
Different current non-development projects under the ministry are facing a financial deficit of Tk 280 million, the culture ministry has mentioned.
A source concerned said one letter was received by the MoF recently and forwarded to the ministry's official concerned for taking necessary steps to allocate the money sought for running cultural affairs.
