Tk 879.7m revenue collected from Teknaf land port

COX'S BAZAR, July 04 (BSS): Revenue to the tune of Tk 879.7 million was collected from Teknaf land port of the district in the last fiscal which is Tk 131.4 million higher than that of the previous fiscal.
Customs sources said a target of collecting revenue through the land port in the fiscal 2006-07 was fixed at Tk 880 million.
The sources said the revenue earning at the port in the fiscal was a bit less than the target due a chaotic political situation and decrease in fish import.
Following imposition of restriction on importing fish mixed with formalin, the fish import through the port has reduced significantly, the sources said.
Revenue officials said 60 per cent revenue is collected from fish import through this port and the rest mainly come from duties on timber, timber products, lentil, rice and pickle.
Cements, rods and medicines are exported through the port.
Local businessmen said there are ample opportunities to enhance the volume of export-import if necessary measures were taken to expand facilities at the port.
