CHITTAGONG, Aug 12: Traffic system in Chittagong City area has deteriorated once again.
Despite restoring discipline in the traffic system for around two months following the state of emergency, the city dwellers are again experiencing severe traffic congestion.
Most of the roads under city area still suffer from intolerable traffic congestion. Hours are wasted by commuters stuck up on the roads.
Different areas of the city, specially around educational institutions, hospitals, garments industries and diagnostic centres the traffic congestion takes a serious turn from time to time almost every day.
Although city dwellers heaved a sigh of relief for the first couple of months into the state of emergency, the situation has changed dramatically for the worse.
A suffocating picture of traffic congestion can be witnessed in the city in places like College Road, Chawk Bazar, Kapashgola Road, Goni Bakery Crossing, Mirzapool, Muradpur, Bahaddar Hat, in front of the office of SP at Sholashahar Gate No. 2, Boxir Hat Police Box, Aamtol, Station Road, etc.
City dwellers allege that no effective measure has been adopted by the administration to ease the traffic congestion.
The Traffic Department of CMP however expressed optimism in being able to restore a healthy atmosphere in the traffic system in a short time adding that the narrowness of the roads, torrential rains and failure of the concerned authority in repair and maintenance of the roads that had led to such a deplorable state in the traffic system of Chittagong City.
