Train hits bus, killing two at Mirsarai

Two die in another road accident

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 02: Two people have been killed and 20 others injured as a train rammed a bus on a railway crossing in Mirsarai of Chattogram.

The accident occurred at Baroiyarhat Crossing under Jorargonj thana of the upazila around 4.00 pm on Sunday.

One of the deceased is Sunirmal Chakma (55). The injured have been admitted to different hospitals for treatment, said fire service officials.

Sources said the Mymensingh-bound Bijoy Express from Chattogram hit a ari as it was crossing the rail track.

The train dragged the bus for some 50 meters before coming to a halt.

Some of the injured were identified as Pushpachar Chakma, Newton Chakma, Kusum Tripura, Minu Chakma, Kallol Dewan, Babu Tripura, Shankar Bijoy, Pankaj Dewan, Kornat Tripura, Abdul Karim and Milton Tripura.

UNB adds: In Bogura, two people were killed in separate road crashes in Sherpur upazila of the district early Sunday.

Abdul Aziz Mandal, in-charge of Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital police camp, said Sazzad Hossain (24) was killed and 20 others were injured when a Rangpur-bound bus collided head-on with another bus around 12:30 am at Mahipur in Sherpur upazila.

In another incident, Taj Mohammad (32), a supervisor of a bus, was killed and 25 others were injured when the bus of SR Paribahan crashed into a covered van around 2:30 am at Dhanut intersection in the upazila.

The injured were taken to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital.
