Bangladesh Investment Climate Fund (BICF) and the Ministry of Establishment Tuesday undertook a number of training programmes for civil servants aiming to sensitise them on key private sector development issues.
The programmes have been designed in such a manner that the civil servants can understand, analyse and respond to the needs of the private sector, said Farooq Sobhan president of Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI).
He was addressing the launching ceremony of 'The 2nd Civil Service Training,' 'The Core Group Alumni' and 'The Executive Core Group' programmes.
Implemented by BEI in partnership with the Institute of Governance Studies, BRAC University and KDI School of Public Policy and Management, South Korea, the programmes are based on the belief that private sector development is the key to sustainable economic growth for Bangladesh.
HT Imam Adviser to Prime Minister attended the inaugural function as chief guest while Bangladesh Bank governor Atiur Rahman was also present as special guest.
Chairman of SME Foundation Aftab Ul Islam, Manager of Advisory Service Bangladesh and Head of SEDF. IFC Advisory Service in South Asia Ian Crosby, Director of IGS, BRAC University Barrister Manzoor Hasan and BICF Programme Manager Laura Anne Watson also attended.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Imam said there was no alternative to training for civil servants to perform their duties more efficiently.
"Training is vital for the adaptation of latest methods and technologies required for proper administrative functions in the present scenario," he said adding that the BICF-BEI initiated training programmes would help them gaining those qualities.
Appreciating all the three programmes, Atiur Rahman urged all the young participants to get the best out of it and implement those in discharging duties as public servants.
