Two accused escape from police custody in Sirajganj, one surrenders

SIRAJGANJ, Apr 29 (UNB): Two accused in a drug case managed to flee from police custody while being shifted to Sirajganj jail from Shahjadpur Judicial Magistrate court on Saturday evening.

The escapees are: Channu Sheikh, 25, son of late Dulal, resident of Dariapur area and Ataur Rahman, 34, son of Shahid Pramanik, resident of Kandapara village of the upazila.

Abu Yusuf, additional superintendent of Sirajganj Police, said the duo ran away along with handcuffs when they were being shifted by a CNG-run auto-rickshawfrom BISIC Terminal area on Saturday evening.

Meanwhile, two constables of Shahzadpur thana were closed to the district police lines over escaping of two accused.

The punitive action was taken against constable Abdul Hye Sarkar and constable Bidyut Kumar as per the directives of Superintendent of Sirajganj Police Miraj Uddin Ahmed for negligence of duty.

Later, Ataur Rahman surrendered to police in the night while Channu remainds absconding.
