Two-day int'l conf'ce on Bhashani begins at DU today


An international conference titled 'Decolonization and Maulana Bhashani' is set to begin at Dhaka University (DU) today (December 23). The two-day conference is organised by the Center for Advanced Research in Arts and Social Sciences (CARASS) to discuss the life, thoughts, and legacy of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani.
The inaugural session will start at 10:00 am with a welcome address by CARASS Director Professor Dr. Ashfaque Hossain.
Education Adviser Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar will attend the event as the chief guest, while DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan will preside over the session.
Dr. Khondoker Iftekhar Iqbal, a historian from University Brunei Darussalam, will deliver the keynote speech.
A photo exhibition on Bhashani will be inaugurated at 12:00 noon by photographer and writer Nasir Ali Mamun. The afternoon academic sessions will include research paper presentations on various topics, such as Bhashani's role in journalism, and the historical significance of the Kagmari Conference.
On the second day (December 24), the conference will feature panel discussions on Bhashani's world philosophy and his contribution to the decolonization process. Ahmed Kamal and Mahbubullah, are scheduled to speak at these sessions.
A special review session on the historic Farakka Long March will also be presented by the CARASS research team. The conference will conclude at 4:00 pm with a documentary screening.
