A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with detectives in Mymensingh Sadar Upazila and another was injured in a gunfight with police in Sadar Upazila of Lalmonirhat district early Wednesday, reports UNB.
In Mymensingh, the suspected drug trader Sumon Mia, 27, son of Suruj Driver of Kalibari in the upazila, and also a listed criminal, was killed in the reported gunfight with detectives at Shambhuganj Charpuliamari at around 01:45am.
Tipped off, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police conducted a drive in the area at around 01:45 am, said Shaha Kamal Akanda, officer-in-charge of District DB police.
Sensing presence of the policemen, the criminals opened fire on them forcing the law enforcers to fire back in self-defence.
The criminals also hurled brickbats to police, said the OC.
Later, police recovered the body of Sumon and took it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Police recovered four kgs of hemp and ten shells of bullet from the spot.
In Lalmonirhat, suspected drug trader Aminur Islam, 42, son of late Abul Kashem of Saptana Noyarhat area, sustained bullet in a reported gunfight with police in Wabda area in Kulaghat Bazar at around 03:00 am.
Mahfuz Alam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said on information that a team of police conducted a drive when a gang of drug traders along with a consignment of drug, brought from India, was crossing the area.
Sensing the presence of police, the drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back which triggered the gunfight, leaving Aminur injured with bullet.
