Two minor girls drown in city Jheel

Two minor girls drowned as a small boat sank in a water body in the city's Manda area on Tuesday, reports UNB.

The deceased were identified as Marjina (11) and Sonia (15), a class seven student of local Haider Ali High School.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mugda thana Nasir Uddin said the victims along with several others boarded a small boat to cross the Mugda Jheel in the Manda area.

On the way to their destination, the boat suddenly capsized at around 11:30 am, the OC said. Local people rescued the passengers and rushed them to nearby Mugda General Hospital where the doctor announced Marjina and Sonia dead.
