FE REPORT | June 01, 2026 00:00:00

Two more children died of measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours until 8:00am on Sunday, raising the total number of confirmed and suspected measles fatalities to 585 since mid-March.

Of the total deaths, 90 were medically confirmed measles cases, according to the data of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The health authorities could not medically confirm all the suspected measles infections and related deaths due to shortage of testing kits, it was learnt. Bangladesh registered the highest 17 single-day deaths from measles and measles-like symptoms last Monday.

The DGHS also recorded 1,377 new suspected and confirmed infections during the period, taking the total suspected infections to 70,936 and confirmed cases to 9,049 nationwide.

Of the total fatalities, 254 were reported in Dhaka as many patients were seen rushing to Dhaka for advanced treatment amid a poor primary healthcare system prevailing at upazila and zila levels.
