Two 'robbers' die in Savar, Rangpur 'gunfights'

Two suspected robbers were killed in reported gunfights with police in Savar Upazila in Dhaka and Rangpur district early Monday, reports UNB.
In Savar, suspected robber Shamim Hossain, 55, son of late Abul Khayer, hailing from Jashore district, was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Tongabari area of Ashulia union.
A team of police arrested Shamim from highway on Sunday.
Later, they conducted a drive to arrest members of his gang early in the morning, said Dipak Chandra Saha, officer-in-charge of Dhamrai Police Station.
In Rangpur, an unidentified robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Satani Charani area in Gangachhara Upazila at around 02:00 am.
On information that a gang of robbers was taking preparation for committing robbery in the area, a team of police conducted a drive, said additional superintendent of police Saiful. Sensing the presence of police, the gang members opened fire, prompting them to fire back, triggering the gunfight which left the robber bullet injured.
