Two schoolgirls commit suicide in Ctg, Rajshahi

CHITTAGONG, Oct 06 (Agencies): Two schoolgirls allegedly committed suicide in Chittagong and Rajshahi today.

In Chittagong, a schoolgirl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Rasul Bag village under Satkhania upazila of the district on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Nishad Mojumdar (17), daughter of Abul Basar, hailed from the village and also a class nine student of local high school.

Quoting the victim's relatives, Alauddin Talukder, assistant sub-inspector (SI) of Chittagong Medical College Police outpost, said the girl might have committed suicide by hanging herself after her parents rebuked her for not attentive with his studies.

She was rushed to the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where attending doctors pronounced her dead.

In Rajshahi, a schoolgirl reportedly committed suicide by taking poison at Koyamazompur village under Durgapur upazila on Thursday night.

Ruhul Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Durgapur Thana, said Mahfuza Khatun (12), a class VI student and daughter of Abdus Sattar, took poison around 1:30 pm as her parents scolded her.

She was then taken to a local clinic where she died.

Police later recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC said.
