Two suspects held

Plain-clothes police arrested two suspected killers of Nasir Uddin from the city's Gabtali area on Sunday night and recovered two firearms loaded with six bullets, reports UNB.

The arrestees are Babul Bepari alias Bablu, 28, and Md Altaf Hossain, 29.

Nasir, 25, son of Abdul Matin Sarder, was beaten and stabbed to death by miscreants for protesting the sexual harassment of his maternal cousin in the city's Bhashantek area on October 10.

Acting on a trip-off, a special team of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), led by Assistant Commissioner Saifullah Md Nasir, conducted a drive in Gabtali Bus Stand area about 9:30pm and arrested the duo.

Briefing reporters at the DMP Media Centre on Monday, Joint Commissioner (DB) Monirul Islam said the arrested criminals, in the face of interrogation, confessed to their part in the killing of the youth and revealed that they had kept firearms used for the murder hidden in Bhashantek area.

Based on the information, the DB team conducted another drive at Goltek under Bhashantek Police Station in the early hours of Monday and recovered two pistols, two magazines, six bullets and six bomb-like objects, the DB joint commissioner said.
