Two workers die in Badda chips factory fire

Two workers were killed in the early hours of Monday in a fire that broke out at a chips manufacturing factory in the capital's Badda area.

The blaze started around 3:00 am at the factory on Kabarkhana Road in North Badda in the city.

The deceased were identified as Md Mostafa (21) son of Majnu Mia of Boro Kumarpara village of Taraganj Upazila, Rangpur, and Mahmudul Hasan (23) son of Islam Uddin of Kazipara village in the same upazila.

Fire Service Control Room official Lima Khanom said that two firefighters units rushed to the spot immediately after being tipped off on the fire.

The blaze was brought under control after around one and a half hours of effort, she further said.

After extinguishing the flames, firefighters conducted a search inside the two-storey semi tin-shed factory and recovered the bodies of the two workers, she added.

The fire service official also said an investigation and damage assessment of the incident were underway and the blaze has been assumed to have originated from an electrical short circuit.
