Two youths put on 10-day remand over Garo woman rape

A court in Dhaka placed two youths, arrested in connection with the rape of an indigenous woman in a microbus in the city, on a 10-day remand each on Thursday, reports UNB.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Amit Kumar Dey passed the order when officer-in-charge of Bhatara Police Station M Sazzad Hossain, also Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, produced the youths- M Ashraf Khan and Zahidul Islam alias Lavlu before his court seeking a 10-day remand for each.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Tushar alias Ashraf and microbus driver Lavlu early Wednesday for their suspected link with the rape in the capital on May 21.

The law enforcers also seized the microbus used by the sex offenders according to their statement.

RAB at a press briefing on Wednesday claimed that the duo confessed to raping the indigenous woman after their arrest.
