The university's regulator, UGC, urged Sunday the country's higher educational institutions to restore academic atmosphere on the campus and take classes and examinations accordingly.
University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Dr AK Azad Chowdhury made the appeal while exchanging views with vice-chancellors of different universities and UGC officials at the commission building in the city.
"A congenial atmosphere has to be restored in the higher educational institutions at any cost by keeping the public and private universities open during the hartal-blockade," said Prof Chowdhury. The commission chairman noted that classes and examinations have to be taken regularly from now on. "If needed, classes and examinations have to be taken on Fridays, Saturdays and other government holidays to recover the losses caused by the ongoing hartal-blockade," he added.
Prof Chowdhury said unhealthy political programmes like hartal and blockade have been seriously disrupting educational activities, particularly higher education.
