UGC cautions students about admission to 35 private univs

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued cautions about student admission to 35 private universities running without approved vice-chancellors and permanent campuses despite repeated warnings.
Of them, 30 private universities are running without any appointed vice-chancellors.
Three are operating illegal campuses, one is not going to its permanent campus at a scheduled time and another for the expiry of temporary permission and a case in court.
Seventy-four out of 104 private universities conducting education programmes in the country have vice-chancellors appointed by the President.
The remaining 30 have no valid vice-chancellors, according to the UGC.
The UGC has advised the parents to be careful of admitting students to these universities.
The names of these universities have been asked to be checked from the UGC website, according to a UGC notification.
Some universities are conducting educational programmes in unauthorised campuses ignoring the Private Universities Act, 2010 and the commission's rules while some others enrolling students in additional seats against the number of seats fixed by the commission or enrolling students in unauthorised programmes.
These private universities had already been restricted several times by the UGC to refrain from conducting educational programmes in an unauthorized or illegal manner.
The notification says the UGC will not be held responsible if anyone is cheated by getting admission in those universities or programmes of those unapproved programmes of approved universities.
Meanwhile, the UGC called upon to check the UGC website whether the desired department has approval for admission to the universities.
The UGC issued a red alert for admission to three universities running illegal campuses and illegal educational programmes.
The universities are IBAIS University, America-Bangladesh University and The University of Cumilla.
Regarding these three universities, the UGC said in the notification that the university has no legal basis for its activities as per the Private Universities Act, 2010, due to the expiry of the temporary permission of the universities.
Apart from this, the admission of students is closed as Victoria University has not moved to the permanent campus by the scheduled time of January first, 2023.
Central University of Science & Technology, Mirpur has banned the admission of students until further notice.
