FE REPORT | February 12, 2024 00:00:00

The Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Forum embarked on its journey with a diverse assembly of health-focused professionals and activists united in the advocacy for comprehensive healthcare accessible to all.

The platform, guided by the motto "Empowering Progress, Engaging Communities, Transforming Health," was officially launched at the CIRDAP Auditorium in the city on a Saturday.

The Forum's primary objective is to generate momentum towards the accelerated realisation of the crucial Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target of UHC and overall well-being.

This will be achieved through the implementation of targeted action plans and active community engagement.

A Public Dialogue on UHC was organised by the Power and Participation Research Centre (PPRC), moderated by Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman, the Executive Chairman of PPRC.

Distinguished panellists included Dr. Aminul Hasan, Founder-CEO of Quality Care Concern, Professor Syed Abdul Hamid from the Institute of Health Economics at the University of Dhaka, AMM Nasir Uddin, former Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and health advisor of PPRC, Professor Dr. Liaquat Ali, Honorary Advisor of Pothikrit Institute of Health Studies, among others.

In his concluding remarks, forum convener and PPRC chairman Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman outlined three priority areas for the UHC Forum such as progress monitoring through real-time data and indicators.

Building momentum on health sector reforms through politically intelligent advocacy and targetedengagement with key policy-makers; and building a social movement for expandinghealth-conscious lifestyles and health literacy are the areas that need to be focused on.

Early priority actions envisaged are targeted dialogues with specific proposals with the new health and local government ministers before Ramadan, he said.

Mr Rahman also called for engaging the private sector in health sector dialogue.
