ULAB hosts BD chapter of Daring Debates

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) hosted the first ever Bangladesh Chapter of Daring Debates - a global debating competition initiated by Difficult Dialogues to promote critical thinking and policy ideation among young people from 10 countries, said a statement.

At the end of the two-day event on Saturday, the team "IBA DU1" of closing opposition from Institute of Business Administration of Dhaka University (IBA DU) emerged as the Bangladesh champions. The team from IBA DU shall be representing Bangladesh in the global finals.

Hosted by ULAB Debating Club, with support from Bangladesh Debating Council, 20 teams of debaters from 12 universities competed for a place in the Global Finals - to be held on November 16 as part of the 9th Global Sustainability Film Awards (GSFA) in England.

In the closing ceremony, ULAB Vice Chancellor Professor H M Jahirul Haque and Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Shamsad Mortuza both addressed the debaters and spoke about the importance of critical thinking among the youth.

The core adjudication panel is consists of Shudipto R Ahmed, Aliya Fairuz, and Inqiyad Patwary.

There was a diverse range of debating motions including children's literature, ban on ownership consolidation of newspapers, feminism and vigilante justice, and global governance.
