Ultra poor families discover new life in Green City of Magura

MAGURA, Oct 10: Green City established at Baharbag village in Magura sadar upazila has raised hope among landless ultra poor families.

The city has been set up under 2nd phase of Guchchha Gram project covering one acre and 20 decimal land at a cost of Tk 8.0 million.

A total of 40 landless and ultra poor families have taken shelter in the city.

Every family has been provided with a tin-shed and brick built house of two rooms. The dwellers are also enjoying solar power, sanitary latrine and eco- friendly cooker.

The city includes education centre and playground for children, community centre, mosques and temple. Different types of trees have given the city a green look .

As income generating programme a large pond has been excavated in the city. The city dwellers are cultivating fishes in the pond.

The fishes will meet up their food demand. At the same time, Ayesha Abed foundation is training up the women of the city so that they can be made self- reliant with sewing.

Monwara Begum of the Green City said, "Earlier I was living in a slum. I never dreamt to live in a brick built house. So such grand house in the Green City was beyond my expectation.

When contacted, Magura Deputy Commissioner Dr Asraful Alam said, "Forty landless families of Magura have got a safe shelter with the Green City. They are enjoying new life."
