Unauthorised building sold at auction for demolition

FE REPORT
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has recently sold a 10-storey unauthorised under-construction building at Tk 60,000 for demolition.
The demolition work on the illegal structure began on Thursday last following an open auction held on Wednesday (March 13).
DNCC Zone-5 Executive Officer Mutakabbir Ahmed conducted the open auction to sell out the building in presence of DNCC Chief Estate Officer Mohammad Mahay Alam, a press release said.
According to it, the privately-owned building was illegally constructed on the Ramchandrapur Canal in Mohammadpur's Basila area.
Mr Mutakabbir Ahmed said as per the official map, around 80 per cent of the under-construction 10-storey building was erected within the boundary of the Ramchandrapur Canal.
The building was partially demolished on February 23 in presence of DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam after the illegal construction had been detected. The building owner begged for a week to demolish it by himself. However, his failure to take necessary action prompted the DNCC officials to sell the property at open auction following an official procedure.
