UNFPA Country Representative calls on Health Adviser

The newly appointed Country Representative of UNFPA Arthur Erken called on Health Adviser ASM Matiur Rahman at his office in the city Wednesday, reports UNB.
The Health Adviser welcomed the UNFPA Representative and praised the organisation's continued cooperation in different sectors like population control and development of mother health in Bangladesh.
The UNFPA Country Representative said the increase rate of population is nearly unchanged here for last few years despite its population control programme has been appreciated worldwide.
He laid emphasis on adopting the permanent methods of birth control to make the population control programme a success.
Considering Bangladesh's medicines' growing demand in international market, Arthur Erken said his organisation is eager to take all steps to make country's pharmaceutical industry more export-oriented.
UNFPA has also laid emphasis on producing trained nurses and paramedics, he added.
DG of Family Planning Department M Abdul Mannan and Deputy Representative of UNFPA Pornchai Suchitta were present on the occasion.
