Unknown disease kills three kids in Sylhet, seven more stricken

SYLHET, Jan 2 (UNB): At least three children died of a mysterious disease in Jointapur Upazila Wednesday and Thursday.
Seven more children were also afflicted with the disease. The outbreak of the disease has scared the people of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Arafat (10), son of Shamsuddin of Jaflong Tea Garden, two-month old Mostafa, son of Shafique Miah of Bandharhati village, and 10 month-old Rima Akhter, daughter of Khalil Miah of Gordona village in the upazila.
Family sources said that Arafat was admitted to the Upazila Heath Complex with diarrhoea and respiratory problems on Wednesday.
He died at the hospital after some time.
Mostafa and Rima died at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH) Thursday.
Those stricken by the unknown disease are taking treatment at the SOMCH.
Dr Jannatun Noor, medical officer of local health complex, said the patients become unconscious due to diarrhoea and respiratory problems.
"Respiratory problem with diarrhoea is quite unusual", she said.
