UP chairman held for corruption

SYLHET, Sep 26 (UNB): A UP chairman and his associate were arrested Thursday for misappropriating rice allocated for distribution among poor people under the VGF (vulnerable group feeding) programme.
The arrested were Akaddas Hossain Talukder, chairman of Muradpur union, and Nurul Islam, a resident of Hossainpur village.
Acting on secret information, the police seized 50 sacks of VGF rice from Hossainpur and arrested Nurul Islam from the village, who bought the rice.
Later, on the basis of his confessional statement, they arrested the UP chairman from his office. A case was filed.
