US-Bangla jt exercise begins in Bogra CMH

BOGRA, Aug 17 (UNB): A week-long surgical interoperability joint exercise on 'Sight, Sound and Smiles 2008' jointly organised by Bangladesh Army and US Army Medical Team started at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) at Bogra Cantonment Saturday.
Area Commander and General Officer Commanding of 11 Infantry Division Maj Gen M Firdaus Mian inaugurated the joint exercises as the chief guest.
A total of 21 participants, including 15 from Bangladesh Army and six from the US Army, are taking part in the exercises.
An ISPR release said, "The purpose of the exercise is to conduct humanitarian assistance activities in Bangladesh and thereby enhance the surgical interoperability between Bangladesh and US Army."
During the exercises, surgical operation on three conditions such as Eye, ENT and Cleft deformities will be performed for the restoration of sight, hearing and reconstruction of facial deformities for the underprivileged population in Bogra.
The surgical operations will continue from August 17 to 20. The team will offer treatment to 50 patients.
