A special tribunal in Dhaka is set to announce its verdict today (Sunday) in the sensational rape and murder case of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter, whose killing in the capital's Pallabi area sparked widespread public outrage.
The decision comes as Bangladesh witnesses a historic, fast-tracked four-day trial, marking one of the speediest judicial proceedings in the country's history.
Talking to The Financial Express, Public Prosecutor Advocate Azizur Rahman Dulu said, "This is a historic milestone for Bangladesh's judiciary, as the entire trial process was wrapped up in just four working days."
Dulu added that the tribunal is scheduled to begin delivering the verdict at 11:00am today.
Earlier on Thursday, a special tribunal in Dhaka fixed June 7 for delivering the verdict after wrapping up the entire trial procedure.
Judge Masrur Salekin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Suppression Tribunal set the date after hearing the final arguments from both the prosecution and the defence.
Police submitted the charge sheet in the case on May 24 against Sohel Rana and Swapna.
