Chief Engineer of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) Nurul Haque Sunday blamed Dhaka Electricity Supply Authority (DESA) for the frequent disruption in water supply in different parts of the city, reports UNB.
"DESA is responsible for the present water crisis as water supply is being disrupted due to heavy loadshedding," he told the news agency when asked about the severe water crisis in areas like Dhanmondi, Kalabagan, Indira Road; and Shewrapara, Kazipara and Shenpara in Mirpur.
Shewrapara, Kazipara and Shenpara are the worst-affected areas as there had been no water supply for the last three days. The situation in the areas reached such a level that Musallis were being requested by mosque authorities through loud hailers to make their ablution from outside.
He said DESA was supposed to inform the Dhaka WASA about the time of load shedding in a particular area of the city as per decision taken at a coordination meeting of the joint forces. "DESA has been continuing load shedding without prior information to WASA. So it causes problems."
Nurul Haque said there would be no water crisis in the city if DESA can reduce load shedding by at least two hours. "So the main problem behind the water crisis is short supply of electricity," he said.
