Water-logging persists in many areas

FE Report | August 03, 2015 00:00:00

After experiencing recurrent spells of rainfall for the last two weeks, the city dwellers got some respite from sufferings on Sunday.

However, the Met Office recorded 21 mm rainfall in the capital from 6pm Saturday to 12.01 pm Sunday. It also forecasted further rain until this evening (Monday).

Director of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) Md Shah Alam said a light to moderate rain was likely to occur at most places over Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions, and moderately heavy to heavy rain at many places over Rangpur and Sylhet divisions.

Meanwhile, many parts of the capital witnessed water-logging on Sunday amid incessant downpour for the last two weeks that caused immense sufferings to the people.

Traffic congestion also turned severe, as submerged roads in many places slowed down movements of vehicles.

Areas like Shantinagar, Jatrabari, Shahjahanpur, Khilgaon, Demra, Badda, Green Road, Mirpur, Adabar and many parts of Mohammadpur were submerged due to heavy rainfall.

Many roads in these areas went below two to three feet rainwater. Garbage and dirty water over-flooded from drains also increased sufferings of pedestrians and commuters.
