CHITTAGONG, June 17: The water-logging problem has gradually turned worse in Chittagong despite spending around Tk 200 million.
The project of excavation of 11 sub-canals including Chaktai canal during the last 4 years by the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) has failed to rescue city dwellers from water logging.
Hill-cutting in an unabated manner, unplanned urbanisation, and unclean drains and culverts are the main causes of water-logging in the city.
According to the concerned sources, the CCC chalked out a project for excavating the sub-canals in 2001. A fund of Tk 200 million was set for the project under financial assist ance of the Asian Develop-ment Bank (ADB). ADB allotted money as per needs of the CCC for implementing the project during the period of 2002 to 2006.
