Weeklong Kurosawa film show begins in city today

A weeklong Japanese film festival, titled 'Akira Kurosawa Film Week, 2014', will begin at Bangladesh National Museum in the city today (Friday), reports UNB.

Japan embassy in Dhaka, International Academy of Film and Media (IAFM), and Bangladesh National Museum will jointly host the festival to pay tributes to Kurosawa, a renowned Japanese film director, screenwriter, producer and editor.

September 6 was the 16th death anniversary of Akira Kurosawa (1910-1998).

Japanese Ambassador in Dhaka Shiro Sadoshima will attend the inaugural session of the film festival as the chief guest. Director General of Bangladesh National Museum Faizul Latif Chowdhury will be present as the special guest.

IAFM chairman Mirza Abdul Khaleque, executive director Bibesh Roy and filmmaker Jean Nesar Osman will also be present.

Screenings at the festival will be open for all for film lovers in the country. Some 13 films will be displayed during the festival that will continue until September 24.

A three-day workshop, titled 'Explore Kurosawa', will be held from September 20-22 during the festival to help enrich understanding of the art of Kurosawa and his work.
