The BSMMU Vice-Chancellor (VC) along with its 554 doctors and teachers called for withdrawing the global leaders' statement on Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus.
Earlier, more than 160 global leaders and Nobel laureates urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to suspend legal proceedings against Dr Yunus, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for pioneering the use of microcredit to help poor people.
The BSMMU teachers and doctors also expressed their concern over the matter.
Citing the Article 94 (a) of the Constitution, BSMMU VC Professor Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed said, "The judiciary of Bangladesh is operating in a completely independent manner."
"As a result, issuing such statements or letters about pending cases is unconstitutional and interference in the judiciary of independent Bangladesh, which is also a threat to the country's sovereign state," he added.
