JESSORE, May 20: Hasina Begum, wife of assassinated union council member Abul Kalam Azad of Alangi union under Kotchandpur upazila in Jhenidah, at a press conference claimed that her husband had been killed in police firing after abduction.
The press conference was held at the Jessore Press Club Monday noon.
Hasina said Sub inspector Mizan of Kotchandpur police station picked up her husband into a blue-colour private car bearing the number Dhaka Metro- Ka-03-2339 from their residence with the help of local Awami League leaders.
Being informed, locals went to the police station in search of her husband. But the officer in-charge Fazlur Rahman denied them any information, she added.
She further said the village people later rushed to the Gurpara police camp on information that her husband had been confined there. The police used baton to disperse the mob. Then a white micro-bus bearing the number Dhaka Metro-Ga- 2231 took away her husband to an unknown place defying the mob. The body of her husband was recovered from a field at Mamunshia under Jhenidah Sadar upazila three days later. The police then claimed that her husband was killed in firing by unknown miscreants, she said.
