Women spend seven times more time at unpaid work than men do which has no recognition in the family, society and the country, said an ActionAid study Wednesday.
The research said of their total time for unpaid work women spend seven hours whereas men spend only one hour. Women don't get opportunities to participate in economic, social and political activities due to such work pressure. This is an obstacle on the way of their empowerment, it said.
The findings were revealed on the day at a seminar at the National Press Club in the city. The study was conducted by the Centre for Gender and Social Transformation (CGST) of BRAC University and ActionAid Bangladesh in cooperation of European Commission.
The research was carried out on some 121 men and 224 women in the northern part of the country.
It also revealed that the married women spend more time at unpaid work than divorcees and widows.
