JU Correspondent | June 09, 2015 00:00:00

Teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) observed a two-hour work abstention programme on Monday in protest against the newly-proposed national pay-scale.

They also observed a sit-in programme in front of the new Arts building on the same demand under the banner of JU Teachers' Association (JUTA).

Under the protest programme the university teachers did not take part in their regular academic activities from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on the day to press for implementation of their demands including restructuring their salaries.

JUTA observed the work abstention programme as a pre-scheduled programme of the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Association.

President of JUTA Prof Khabir Uddin said, "If the government doesn't take necessary steps within 30 June we will announce tougher movement to fulfil our demands." "The new pay-scale has downgraded two grades from that in the 7th pay-scale which shocked all the varsity teachers of the country," general secretary of JUTA Mafruhi Sattar said.
