Worker killed in ship-breaking yard explosion

CHITTAGONG, Aug 25: A worker was killed in a generator blast at a ship breaking yard at Shitalpur of Sitakunda today.

Md Ilyas (30) of MK Corporation received severe injuries as the generator he was working with, blasted at around 9.30 am. The severely burnt worker was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where the attending physicians declared him dead.

An official at the Kumira fire station said they rushed to the scene and brought fire under control after two hours. The financial loss of the yard could be around Tk. 0.1 million, he said.
