'World Car-free Day' to be observed Saturday

Paribesh Banchao Andolon (PBA), Citizens Rights Movement and Nirapad Development Foundation will jointly hold a rally Saturday (Sept 26) in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh to observe the 'World Car-free Day-2009', reports UNB.
The chairman of PBA Abu Naser Khan announced the programme at a press conference held at the PBA hall room Thursday.
Khan said the Car-free Day was observed worldwide on September 22.
"But due to the Eid holidays we are observing it here on September 26", he added.
He also said that nowadays the city roads of the country witness regular traffic jams due to "excess of private cars."
The PBA chairman demanded proper control over plying of private cars in the city roads, introducing and ensuring comfortable public transportation system and imposing higher rate of import duty on cars.
